BMW Gift-Wraps the 2019 X7 SAV Early For Next-Christmas Debut

Similar to how a film is made, there are numerous stages a new or all-new vehicle must go through before it arrives on dealership lots. Before it’s unveiled, a preproduction run to iron out any development kinks and tune the driveline to Ultimate Driving Machine spec takes place. In the case of the 2019 BMW X7, the first-ever the automaker has produced, that process starts today.

The decision to build a three-row BMW Sports Activity Vehicle dates back to 2014, when the brand announced their plans for a new flagship to slot above the much-beloved X5. Where that utility can be had with three rows, it’s expected that the 2019 X7 will compete in the full-size class, where the latter competes among mid-size entries.

But where the image above depicts a luxury SUV which appears ready to hit new BMW dealerships nationwide, you might notice one critical detail: the pre-production camouflage. That’s because the X7 has twelve months of testing ahead of it before it enters production officially at the end of next year. Before then, BMW will be working hard on all fronts to ensure a refined, quality assembly process, and a ride and handling character befitting of the “Ultimate Driving Machine” name!

Beneath that early gift-wrap, the 2019 X7 promises more than a dynamic and engaging driving experience with three rows. It will be based on the same Cluster Architecture (CLAR) platform shared by the dynamic X5, and will be motivated—ostensibly—by a turbocharged six-cylinder engine, similar to the 3.0-liter unit from its mid-size sibling. A hybrid model, diesel, V8, and even V12 have been rumored as other powertrain options, but these remain mere whispers as of our writing.

We’re still a year out from an official unveiling, but that gives you plenty of time to plan for the X7’s arrival in showrooms! That gives you time to get acquainted with the exciting new BMW models we offer, such as the X1 or eye-catching X6--especially if your needs are more immediate!
