Drive with confidence and comfort when you use the BMW Active Driving Assistant systems, including safety features and parking maneuver assistance.
Understanding the BMW Active Driving Assistant Features
Assisted Driving
The Assisted Driving Mode available on BMWs comes standard with distance control and steering assistant features to actively center your car in the lane, maintain speed, and keep a distance from the vehicle ahead. You’ll also find the Speed Limit Assistant that detects speed limit changes and lets you automatically adopt the new speed limit in your Dynamic Cruise Control or Distance Control functions.
There are also features to assist with lane changing, including the Lane Change Assistant that detects vehicles in neighboring lanes and the Lane Guiding with Navigation function that suggests lane changes up to 3 miles before any turn, exit, or event on the navigation route.
Assisted Driving Mode Plus
For even greater technological advances, the Assisted Driving Mode Plus includes the Highway Assistant feature that lets you drive hands-free on controlled access highways up to 85 mph without a vehicle ahead. Driving with highway assist also includes access to the Active Lane Change feature, which suggests lane changes depending on traffic flow. You can also take your hands off the steering wheel at slow speeds up to 40 mph with a vehicle ahead by using the Traffic Jam Assistant.
Safety Features
Driving assistance systems also include safety-orientated features to prevent collisions, such as the Active Blind Spot Detection that warns drivers of a vehicle in the blind spot or approaching from behind. The Lane Keeping Assistant alerts drivers when the vehicle is about to exit the lane or run off the road by detecting lane markings and sending steering wheel vibrations.
To document surrounding traffic, the Driver Recorder system stores video recordings and also acts as an Anti-Theft Recorder when the alarm system is triggered. In the background, you’ll also find an Emergency Stop Assistant that ensures the vehicle comes to a stop if the driver is inattentive or unresponsive for a prolonged time.
Parking and Maneuvering
Maneuvering in small parking lots is easy with the Parking View feature that gives drivers access to multiple camera views that mark detected obstacles with colored tiles to show their distance from the vehicle. Camera angles include panorama view, 3D view, trailer coupling view, and car wash view. You’ll also find an Automatic Park Assistant that scans for open parking spaces and will park your vehicle in perpendicular, parallel, or diagonal spots at speeds up to 22 mph and in situations where there’s at least 5 ft from parked vehicles.
