Jacksonville, FL might not be known as one of America’s most artsy cities, but we Jaxons who are into art sure know the best places to find art in town. And if you spend enough time driving around Jacksonville, you’ll certainly soon pick up on the artistic side of our city. Here are our recommendations for excellent places to enjoy local art here in Jacksonville.

Just Down the Road: 3 Spots for Local Art in Jacksonville, FL

1. Museum of Contemporary Art, Jacksonville

Jacksonville’s most well-known art museum located right in the heart of Downtown Jacksonville at 333 North Laura Street, the Museum of Contemporary Art (MOCA) hosts a permanent collection of over 1,000 pieces of contemporary art, as well as numerous rotating exhibits. This makes it not only one of Florida’s largest museums, but also one of the largest contemporary art museums in the country!

The art on display will fascinate you with its colors, shapes, and unique designs reminiscent of modern art. You’ll see exhibits displayed showcasing artists from the Jacksonville area and around the world. Admission is only $8, with students and children always going for free.

2. Yellow House Art Gallery

You might drive by this little art gallery and think it’s just another cute suburban house, but this little yellow house tucked in the woods at 577 King Street is actually a community-run gallery showcasing locally-produced art! Though not nearly the size of the MOCA, we definitely think its uniqueness deserves it a mention!

The Yellow House always aims to tell a story through its exhibits, so you won’t find just any collection of art here, you’ll find a carefully curated selection that tells a unique story about Jacksonville’s past or present. Admission is always free, even for most of their special events.

3. The Vault at 1930

You can find another unique galley to check out local Jacksonville art at 1957 San Marco Boulevard, where Jacksonville artists of all disciplines display the best of their collections. Featuring art from over two dozen Jacksonville artists, from sculptures, to paintings, to collages, and more, there’s going to be a lot here to impress you!

Admission is also free, and oftentimes you’ll even find an artist or two hanging around here happy to give you a free tour of his or her artwork. Yep, it’s just one of those places!

Checking out art displays and meeting artists from the community can be a great way to feel part of the Jacksonville community and learn more about everything our city can offer. Stop by your local BMW dealers at Tom Bush BMW Orange Park and pick up a stylish car like the BMW M2 for your rides around Jacksonville!
